10th Anniversary
It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years.
On January 15, 2002, accidentalcentaurs.com went live with the first strip in what was to be known as “Lair of the Insectaurs”. Looking back at that first strip, I have to wince. The art is crude and Sam’s behavior… oy vey…
To be honest, the characters hadn’t fully revealed themselves, and the art got marginally better. With ten years of practice, one would hope for some improvement. In those ten years, I’ve had the opportunity to make a lot of great friends, explore some fascinating characters and build a career in a field that I had always wanted to be a part of. Accidental Centaurs made it possible for me to be in the National Cartoonists’ Society and frankly, I wake up every morning and thank God that they lowered their membership standards to let me in.
As we approach the tenth anniversary of Accidental Centaurs, I’d like to hear from you, the readers. How did you first find Accidental Centaurs? I’m curious about the routes that brought us together. I’d also like to hear what you like best about the strip and what you’d change about it if you could. (Besides update frequency… we’d all like to do something about that!)
Thank you for reading Accidental Centaurs. Thank you for ten years of ups and downs, ins, outs, In-N-Outs and what-have-yous. I’m looking forward to the next ten years.
The comments are open on this page for you to leave your musings.

John, wasn’t there an earlier incarnation of Accidental Centaurs? I seem to recall running across “Not (Exactly) Human” or “Not (Quite) Human” back in 1996-ish.
You’re right. There was an earlier version of AC that ran on “Not (Exactly) Human”… or rather, was teased on that site. I never did get the comic done then because I felt that the tone of the original wasn’t quite right. I also did an trailer for an animated version that never got off the ground. That was around 1999 (the site launched in 1998).
I came here from “The Wotch”, after your crossover.
It’s been fun watching the story develop over the years. May AC live long and continue to prosper.
I found AC via Kevin & Kell. I remember looking through the original strips about two years ago and thinking their had to be something more to the story. I was very excited when you said you were going to start working on the strip again.
I found the site Not exactly human from Kevin and Kell. BTW I miss NSF Fridays
Found the comic from The Wotch’s links list before crossover, which made that even more fun. Great work, have followed and loved throughout!
It’s been a long time since I first came upon Accidental Centaurs but I have the strange feeling it was through The Wotch before the crossover.
Doing research for a history paper on mythology got me here. I stopped reading a few times do to lack of net and other things, but refound it once I got my own place.
Actually, my very first webcomic. I always had a thing for centaurs, and a generic search for ‘em led me here – THEN to The Wotch and elsewhere. I must say, though, that I disagree with your self-evaluation of the art. I actually prefer the earlier incarnation, and feel the equine anatomy was more accurate.
